Gavin in Hawaii

When we were in Hawaii, Gavin had a couple firsts. His first tooth popped through on the bottom! I haven't been able to get a picture yet because it is so tiny, but I will post one when I do. He also got to take his baths in the kitchen sink, which was a complete mess, but he had fun. He started to try and pull himself up on things that are in front of him. The last day, he got to take his first shower. He wasn't scared at all, he liked the water hitting the top of his head.

Hawaii Trip

This post is REALLY REALLY long and has a ton of pictures, but I wanted to show pictures from everything we did on our trip.

We went to Hawaii for a week and had a great time! What I didn't realize was how much stuff needed to be packed for a week long vacation with a baby. This was one of the most stressful parts of the trip. So here is how it started. Our friend Tommy took us to the airport on Tuesday afternoon and we think we have plenty of time and we don't need to rush around. He dropped us at LAX and we go to check in . . . I can't find my wallet anywhere. We start to go through the bags and all of our stuff and nothing. We stopped again to look for the wallet, Nate ran back to the counter to see if anyone had turned it in, we stop again to look for the wallet, we called my mom to come and check our house, Tommy pulled over to look in his car. . . you get the picture. In the meantime, it is getting later and later so we're starting to worry that we aren't going to make the flight and they are calling my name to check in ASAP. At this point, we are trying to get there as fast as we could, but we had so much stuff that we were carting around that was making it difficult. To make a long story short, they end up giving me a boarding pass any way and they let me through security and on the plane without any form of ID at all. How crazy is that? While all of this is going on, we see a swarm of paparazzi chasing the actress, Amy Adams. I had no idea who this was, but I was really excited to see real paparazzi, so I took pictures of them instead. We ended up making the flight and everything worked out perfectly. Gavin even got his own seat on the way there and he slept for 2 hours!!

The stroller had no room for Gavin

First plane ride

By the time we landed in Hawaii and got the car, it was about midnight (3 in the morning over here). We were all exhausted, but we still unpacked because we wanted to look for the wallet again. . . nothing. The next day, I went in the diaper bag to get Gavin's diaper cream, and there is the wallet in the very bottom. I guess I was too panicked at the airport and too tired when we unpacked to find it. The whole thing was really weird, but I was so relieved to find it!

Gavin was so excited to wake up in Hawaii

He is looking at the view from the window

We took a walk down to the Hilton Hawaiian Village and Gavin loved looking at the waterfalls

On Thursday, we decided to set out on a road trip and it ended up being a really long one. We drove all the way around to the North Shore, which was the other side of the island. We went the scenic route so it took a while. We stopped at the macadamia nut farm and they told us that the road was closed at the time to get all the way over there, so we had to kill some time and wait for it to open up again.

The waves on the North Shore are what everyone goes to see. The beaches on that side are so clear and beautiful

The next stop was the Dole Pineapple Plantation. . .

This is our wedding anniversary date

He got a taste of our pineapple float and he thought it tasted yummy!!

We found Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. . .

We went and visited the Pearl Harbor museum and exhibit. We watched a video and then took a boat trip out to the memorial where there are still parts of the USS Arizona ship sticking out from under water. There is a marble wall with all the names of the people who were aboard that ship when it was attacked. This whole tour was sad and depressing and they ask everyone to speak as little as possible to show respect for those lost. I'm glad we went to see it.

There was a table with a couple survivors from Pearl Harbor and they were signing the memorabilia that people were buying.

Gavin seemed to really like the beach. Nate took him in and I think he was wondering why it was so cold, compared to his bath because he just kept staring at the water. He couldn't get enough sand in his hands.

Walked down to the International Marketplace and shopped a little bit. It was kind of like a swapmeet where all of the stands have the same thing and they try to bargain with you.

Paradise Cove Luau

We hiked up a REALLY long trail that led us to the Waimea Falls all the way at the top. We walked through the most beautiful plants and scenery the entire way.

Found Dog the Bounty Hunter's office. The doors were open, but we didn't see him.

Spent the day at the pool!

As we were checking in and getting ready to fly out, Nate's parents flew in to stay for the following week. We got to visit for a little while in the airport and take a few pictures since we were all in Hawaii at the same time.

e had such a good time and we were so sad to come back. Hopefully we go back again sometime!
