GRANT IS 1 MONTH

Last Monday, the 19th, Grant turned one month.  I can't believe that much time has gone by already.  It makes me sad:-(  I want him to stay a tiny baby for a while longer.  He has already changed so much in his looks and the way he acts.  He is such a sweet baby boy!

At his check-up, he weighed 10 pounds and measured 22 inches

He has been a great sleeper and we definitely cannot complain.  He is sleeping between 4 and 6 hours at night (most of the time).  He is drinking about 4 ounces every time he eats.  He is just now starting to relax in the bath and enjoy it.  The first couple of weeks, bath time was miserable for him and stressful for us, but it's getting better.  Grant grunts a lot, along with squeaking, whimpering, and other noises.  He  is just about grown out of newborn clothes and wears size 1 diapers now.  If he is not sleeping or laying on me, his second favorite place to be is the swing!  LOVES IT!  He has many nicknames that all of us have given him: Granty Poo, Bubba, Lil' Fella, Buddy, Love Bug, and many more

We have definitely had some adjusting to do to get back into the swing of having a newborn around here.  It's been a while and we forgot how there is not much relaxation or down time...if any, but we wouldn't change it for the world.  We have had so much fun the last month!

We love you more than words can say!

GRANT'S FIRST BATH

We have been waiting patiently for Grant's umbilical cord to fall off and his circumcision to heal so we could give him his first bath. It all happened last weekend and we were able to bathe him on Sunday!  He screamed and I think he hated it.  He was squirming all over the place until Nate held his arms tightly under the water.

This was our big helper!  He said he had to wear these ear muffs because of all of the screaming

He couldn't get over how little Grant's feet and toes are

All nice and warm in his towel

Gavin helped dry all of his hair and put lotion on him

Hopefully he starts to like the bath as time goes on.  I love the smell of a clean baby!

GRANT NATHAN HAS ARRIVED

Grant Nathan Lorge
Sunday, February 19, 2012
5:29 am
7 pounds, 9 ounces, 19.5 inches long

He is here and he is PERFECT! I had a feeling for the last couple of weeks that he was coming early.  At my last few weekly doctor appointments, he told me I was dilated and the baby was on his way out very soon.  Last Saturday, I got up and had a feeling that something was going to happen that day.  I finished packing our bags, cleaned the house AGAIN, washed my hair, and did a lot of waiting around.  I didn't start having contractions until about 8 that night and they were 20-25 minutes apart.  I thought we would probably be waiting around on Sunday too.  By midnight, they were coming about every 12 minutes and by 1:45am, they were every 3 minutes.  My doctor said to head to the hospital when they were around every 5 minutes, but I missed that altogether!  I woke up Nate in severe pain and told him we had to go.  Gavin was sound asleep so Robert came to sleep with him and my mom came with us.  I got my epidural around 2:15 and everything went SO FAST from there.  I had him at 5:29!  I couldn't have asked for things to go any different.
Nate was able to leave and pick up Gavin really early in the morning and bring him back to the hospital. I don't think he even realized we had left.  He just woke up a Big Brother!  I had so much anxiety and stress about where he would go and how he would feel, but it worked out perfectly!

He was a little confused at first and really quiet.  I think he couldn't believe that Grant was actually out of my stomach and we weren't just talking about it anymore.  He brought him this giraffe and now every time Grant cries, he thinks he wants the giraffe.

Holding his brother for the first time

After some visitors, Gavin had enough and he had to take a little nap in the extra bed
Nate was able to go home with Gavin and sleep and then we were released pretty early the next day.  Grant was able to wear the same outfit as Gavin home from the hospital.  He looked so cute and tiny.

I think my favorite part of having two kids has been watching Gavin love his brother.  He has been so patient and loving and such a great helper.  He doesn't try to hold him much but he is always rubbing his head and saying, "Hi Grant, Hi Buddy" and "I love you Grant."  It melts my heart when I see how much he loves him already

We are loaded up and ready to go home as a family of 4

He was helping his daddy load the car

I am so thankful that he is here and healthy and all of the waiting is over.  He has been such a good baby!  We are all so in love with him already:-)

OUR FIRST OUTING

Our first outing was when we took Grant to his newborn check-up.  I forgot how much work it is to pack up and get out of the house by a certain time with a newborn baby and a 3 year old.

Everything went well at the Dr.  He had lost a couple of ounces, but nothing to be worried about.  He is a healthy boy!

Grant and Dr. Deterville

Once the doctor undressed him and started to mess with him, he was pretty upset

We told Gavin that after the Dr, we would take wherever he wanted to go for lunch because he had been such a good helper and big brother and he chose to go to Panda Express to eat the orange chicken. That is his favorite.  We talked him into going to Woodranch so he could feed the ducks and we could have a nice lunch at a restaurant!
